AT A GLANCE
This program aims to provide participants with a broad picture of the latest developments in the trauma field. Theories and reseach pertaining to the consequences of trauma, healthy coping processes, and possible pathological consequences will be presented. Students will learn about the risks of developing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), related distress and potential protective factors. Guiding principles for clinical programs treating post-traumatic disorders will be discussed. The academic curriculum will be enriched by the following experiences:
- Field visit to a city-wide intervention program for strengthening resilience in the civilian population in the wake of war.
- Opportunities to practice experiential techniques for early intervention and treatment of traumatized individuals.
- Presentation of programs that have been implemented in Israel, which are aimed at building resilience and preventing pathological consequences of trauma.
| TARGET GROUP: Professionals & Advanced Students of Clinical or Educational Psychology, Neuropsychology, Social Work, Psychiatry, Counselling, Nursing, Medicine, Law, and Public Health, as well as civil servants and clergy. NOTE: In order to be accepted to the program, applicants are requested to write an essay of 500 words about their personal and/or professional motivation to take this course. |
Jerusalem is a city sacred to Judaism, Christianity and Islam that has captured the hearts and minds and souls of the world for over 3,000 years. Jerusalem is a melding of past and present, of ancient roots and modern innovations.
The Hebrew University is Israel's first university and a symbol of the cultural rebirth of the Jewish nation in its ancestral homeland. The Hebrew University has become a multi-disciplinary institution of higher learning and research and a scientific centre of international repute.
The unique program is held at the Rothberg International School of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Mount Scopus Campus.
Site visits will include meeting with the leading scientists and practitioners in the field of psychological trauma.
The course will focus on five themes:
- Psychological trauma: consequences and coping
- Resilience: theoretical concepts and applications
- Community preparedness for terrorism and disaster
- Children and trauma: developmental and gender aspects
- Clinical interventions

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
A selection of social and cultural activities designed to complement the academic program as well as to enable students to enjoy a memorable Israeli experience, is offered for an additional fee. These activities include trips in and around Jerusalem as well as to other parts of Israel. Sports facilities on campus include an indoor semi-Olympic pool, a large physical fitness and aerobics centre, as well as outdoor tennis courts. Students may use these facilities for an additional fee.
Participants will be housed in the Scopus Student Village. A linen package will be provided, however participants will need to bring their own towels.
COSTS
All fees listed below are in US dollars (US$)
Two Week Program:
- Tuition: US$1,500 (TBC) ($750 of this sum is to be paid directly to the Israel Centre for the Treatment of Psychotrauma)
- Housing: US$620 (TBC)
